Book Clubs!

We have started the term with Book Clubs and have 6 groups on the go, all reading a different novel. The children meet with their group members twice a week to discuss the book and each have a turn creating questions for their group to answer based on what they have read each chapter. The enthusiasm for these novels has been awesome!

Volleyball with Mr. Brodie

We are so lucky to be getting a couple of Volleyball sessions with Mr. Brodie this term. Today the children were playing against each other and learning the basic skills of volleyball.
Hopefully we can find enough players to make an Upper Moutere Team.

Reusing our Recycling

Along with the Beeswax Wraps, the children were given a challenge to create a class mascot or item of their choice out of the recycling they could find at home. We had such a wide range of creations and the children were buzzing with their final products.

Beeswax Wraps

On Wednesday we had made our own Beeswax Wraps in class. We used beeswax, pine rosin, cotton, iron and baking paper. The children cut up their piece of cotton and coated it with the beeswax and rosin mixture. To spread the mixture we put it between two pieces of baking paper and ironed it on. They hung to dry and are now being used in their lunches instead of glad wrap... I hope :)

Nelson Tasman Cross Country Runners

Last term we had a large group of Upper Moutere students compete in the Nelson Tasman Regional Cross Country.
Billie, Kaela, Ollie and Isaiah raced in the year 6 races and did such a great job!
Good luck to Hannah and Camden who are going to Hanmer Springs in September for the South Island Cross Country.

Banqer Auction

Our Garage Sale and Banqer Auction last term went so well. The children did a great job selling their items and an even better job at spending their money! We will have to complete many more Banqer activities and give out plenty of house points to get their bank accounts back to what they were before the auction.

Rippa Tournament

Last Tuesday we had a group of years 5/6 students at the Rippa Rugby Tournament in Motueka. The two teams were full of positive energy and were very supportive of each other. It was so great to see our students wear the UMO t-shirt with pride.
We had a lot of children with sore muscles at the end of the day.
